Kurogane Pukapuka Tai volume 1
Download | Read online
“Needless to say, there’s no dead end through this pathway
Across the road with my shadow to come;
Needless to say…
There’s no angel to keep us alive, to keep us alive…
There’s no demons to fire it up;
All the beauty must die…”
Well, fortunately not in case of this manga – which for some reason has never suffered from lack of interest, not back when we’d just started working on it and not recently, I presume. Thank you, everyone who loved or hated it, for both the support and the flames; without either, I doubt this project would ever be possible. o(^-^)o
In the end of volume 1, ‘Unebi’ escapes a dangerous storm; sadly not without losses… but with one significant gain, too. The last chapter should clear several things up; a certain character jumps up a good couple grades on the scale of awesome, and we learn that no, the mangaka is not historically illiterate. What I’ve secretly wished for, we get to see a bit more of the both yuri (well… in one case, yuri-ish) couples of this manga; the stage is set for volume 2, which will hopefully see the light not far from now…

Hmm… Good thing Obama didn’t hear Kiku there. ^-^;
And this marks the end of my first big project. As the work progressed, I was constantly realising that many things could be done much, much better; but I tried to stay as consistent as possible…
…I think I have mentioned it before, but if not, I’m gonna say it now: I’m not an editor. My bad. ^-^;
I kind of expected it to have more yuri, but oh well. Still, we’ve got two kinda couples, Kuki is uber cool (when she isn’t being oblivious to Mamiya -_-), Nina… I’m not gonna spoil ch. 10 for you, Ann would be cool if she dropped the lipstick and started taking better care of Mary, Obama is… well… Obama, and Nojima is totally hot – this manga needs much more of her!
My gratitude goes to:
the Anonymous who told us of this manga months ago,
Shijima for the purchase, scan and for letting me work on it,
you for reading it,
/u/ for much amusement,
Matthew Brown for launching the TVtropes page,
everyone involved in keeping the Manga-Updates page for Wings of Yuri, uh, up to date (this number would include me as well, I guess ^-^),
and to the Polish yuri lovers from Yuri.pl for their wonderfully relaxed approach to this story!
All right… now I’m in for some serious catch-up-with-things struggle. ^-^;

Thanks Winterbraid and Shijima and all invovled.
Yet another nice chapter. Cookie really charms all the girls, even if she is totally oblivious to it.
Let’s hope volume 2 has more Mamiya x Cookie.
About the historical stuff, I wasn’t really paying any attention. Actually, it wasn’t until like chapter 4 or 5 that I realized they were in WWII. The focus is on the comedy and the yuri anyways.
Again thanks to all.
It’s…over? (At least until v2 comes out, but who knows when that’ll be?) ;_;
And…wow, the bit with Nina and Elsa was surprising.
Clearly, everybody is Mamiya for Cookie. :3
Nina is, clearly, of the brand of sub skippers who’re wont to ask the dock crew upon returning to base if the Nazis are still in power… and order the engine room to put the screws on reverse upon hearing the answer. At least one of the Germans’ “sub aces” indulged in little f-yous like that – the submariners could get away with such open defiance thanks to their elité status.
Also, so she actually *does* have a major stink fetish… o_O Whoda thunkit ? And Obama and her +2 Broom of Stench Smiting FTW.
Nina’s stink fetish was a bit on the weird side o_0 … but the whole protecting a Jewish descendant was kudos to her…
I like the alternate universe look at things… It is fun.
@son:
Hmm… Who knows what will the future bring?
@Mousepad:
You’re welcome.
@Yi:
Yeah, I hope Mamiya will get some love eventually… I also hope for more Kurushima x Nojima.
@Kamino Neko:
Yeah, I thought so too.
@Watchman:
Hehe, I didn’t hear about that! Who was that “sub ace” you have in mind? They should teach stuff like that during history lessons, really…
People around here assume the All Germans Are Nazis view way too often. -_-
@Silvertigris:
Yeah, I was a bit sceptical about Nina at first (though mostly because I’m rooting for Mamiya… there are much weirder fetishes, anyway), but this part more than makes up for anything I might not like about her. ^-^
Eh, can’t recall the name right now and teh Wiki was of no help on a cursory search. And the bookstore where I ran into the anoecdote (in a book on the U-Boot vs. destroyer escort war in the Atlantic) won’t be open until Monday… I’ll try to look it up then.
But on a similar, though much more far-reaching, vein, see the fairly thorough high treason of the Abwehr (the German military intelligence agency) and its chief, Wilhelm Canaris. The Nazis were *not* universally liked in the military, especially among the “old school” senior officers… Hitler had real enough reasons to distrust his generals, after all.
Though the weirdest case I’ve read of has to be that one Communist who joined the SS to find out if the rumours of his handicapped cousin having been deliberately murdered in hospital were true, eventually ended up visiting Auschwitz as a technical consultant on delousing clothing, and tried to get the word out of the horror he had witnessed…
Huuh… Thanks for the info. Hehe, I read somewhere that ships were sometimes assigned a “political officer” from the Nazi party… I wasn’t sure whether that was fact or fiction, though.
And? What happened to that Commie?
The Kriegsmarine was definitely the least Nazi of the services, and the one that committed the least war crimes. The first head, Raeder, was definitely not a Nazi, and in fact was in charge of the German Navy before Hitler rose to power. He was demoted & forced to resign largely due to the poor performance of Germany’s surface fleet and his lack of faith in U-boats, and was replaced by Dönitz, commander of the U-boats. He was a bit more of a Nazi ideologically speaking, but was more of a results man than an ideology man; the at-sea Kriegsmarine was also by its very nature rather removed from the more reprehensible actions of the Nazi regime, although prisoners were used to construct U-boat facilities and other such.
Fundamentally, though, I get the impression if you were a successful commander and didn’t do anything too obvious, you could get away with not being much of a Nazi supporter as a U-boat Captain.
@Matthew Brown:
Thanks for the info!
Yeah, I guess a Captain as successful as Nina could get away with a lot of things… although helping Jews and being a homosexual at the same time might have been a bit of an overdrive. ^-^;
Given the Nazi attitude to homosexuals (although I’m under the impression they were mostly hung up on male homosexuality), you could say that they’re in the same boat in more than one sense there…
Anyways, can’t remember what happened to the Commie infiltrator and the book in question is buried somewhere in the meter-high post-moving piles I really should sort into the bookshelf one of these days. But unless he managed to get his ass caught by Gestapo or went over the edge and committed suicide I’d assume he survived, as he was in the rear-echelon support branches (medical services specifically) rather than combat troops.
The sub skipper famous for that quip would be one Reinhard Suhren, #38 on the Top 50 tonnage-sinker list. Not quite one of the top “Aces of the Deep” then, and even he could get away with such blatant dissing of the regime – and later went on to become the C-in-C of submarines first in Norwegian waters and later all of the North Sea.
From what I’ve read of it Dönitz was something of a pro-Nazi but not a raging one, and mostly focused on his job. A former submarine man himself, however, his attitude regarding the National Socialist Leadership Officers (basically the Nazi version of the Soviet political officers) regarding the U-boats could apparently best be summarized as “GTFO” – the crews quickly became extremely tight-knit communities, and forcing such “minders” on them would certainly have caused much friction. Presumably Dönitz also found the idea both distasteful in principle (AFAIK military men universally loathed such “politruks” in any case) and entirely redundant, given the highly-motivated volunteer nature of the crews.
Hehe, thanks for the info again. Yeah, piles of books can get really bad if not taken care of systematically… actually I’ve got quite a prominent example growing right next to my bed. Not to mention all the notebooks (uh, the traditional kind) with notes from lectures littering the floor and chairs everywhere… >_>
Zipang this ain’t, but it’s good enough for light Yuri-ish WWII fare.
@section9:
Hehe, I think so too.
I’m looking forward to the next volume…
Hello!
I’d Like to Know if you keep to continue with kurogane
I missed this manga so much, it has been a lot of time since I read the previous chapters. I’ll have to re-read all the volumen. I’m very glad that this project wasn’t forgotten
Volume 2 is out! Raws can be found here, if anyone is interested:

@voor
awesome
First my thanks for the great work on the translation/editing-> overall scanlation of the first volume of this manga.
I too think the setting to be a little concerning, but the last two joke pages of the second chapter convinceed me, that it can be forgiven/ignored. Setting aside this comic is unbelieveable funny.
Also, it’s not bad viewing bad things from a humourus ankle, fredom of humour (of speech in general) is one of the advantages of free democracys over fashist regiems after all (and humour is far better to come over thinks as staying angry and begruded forever)
Anyway, I looked the site for hints, if the second volume will be scanlated as well, but did see nothing.
I would hope for a statement if/when or if not the second volume will be worked on by you as well (can’t imagin someone alse doing a better job after all).
A good day for whoever reads this!
all the downloadlinks for vol 2 is down.
Anyone kind enough to upload vol 2 again?
Here is DL for the raws for entire volume 2:
